In a ballroom on new year’s eve of 1938, in Athens, love at first sight strikes the hearts of eighteen year old Irene and Constantine, the only son of the wealthy Botelli family. Against all odds, the youths prepare to marry. On the day of their wedding, however, a terrible event disrupts their happiness and the young girl, distraught, is sent away to Canada shortly before the Greco-Italian war breaks out. Her love and dreams are left behind, turning to ash along with her beloved homeland. Almost sixty years later, Eleonora Douglas, a rich American woman of Greek heritage, comes to Greece on vacation trying to overcome a personal drama. A new acquaintance will convince her to remain in Athens. In her search for a house, she accidentally comes across an old and abandoned villa which exerts such an intense pull on her that she decides to buy it. While renovating it, she discovers, hidden behind some old wallpaper, a mural of a young couple at the beginning of the previous century. The girl looks a lot like her and Eleonora considers it to be a good omen. A little while after she moves into the house, however, strange things begin to happen. Frightening as they are, they also make her want to find out the identity of the couple of the mural. She is sure that the answer to everything lies therein and it is because of them that he wanders around the rooms of the house at night…
