Τα “Ληξιπρόθεσμα δάνεια” αρχίζουν με ένα χαρμόσυνο γεγονός. Ο αστυνόμος Χαρίτος παντρεύει την κόρη του. Η χαρά του όμως κρατάει λίγο. Γιατί στις επόμενες μέρες εμφανίζεται ένας δολοφόνος που σκοτώνει τραπεζικούς και ανθρώπους του χρήματος. Σαν να μην έφτανε αυτό, η Αθήνα γεμίζει με αφίσες που προτρέπουν όσους χρωστάνε στις τράπεζες να μην πληρώνουν τις δόσεις των δανείων τους και των πιστωτικών τους καρτών. Επειδή ο άγνωστος δολοφόνος σκοτώνει και ξένους, σε μια εποχή που το γόητρο της χώρας βρίσκεται στο ναδίρ, ο Χαρίτος και η ελληνική αστυνομία τρέχουν και δε φτάνουν.
Τα “Ληξιπρόθεσμα δάνεια” είναι το πρώτο μέρος μιας τριλογίας, της “Τριλογίας της Κρίσεως”. Και τα τρία μυθιστορήματα έχουν ως θέμα την κρίση που ταλανίζει σήμερα τους Έλληνες.
