Βολιβία, 1950. 
Μετά την ήττα της Γερμανίας στον Β΄ Παγκόσμιο πόλεμο, ο Χανς Ερλτ, ο καλύτερος εικονολήπτης της Λένι Ρίφενσταλ, της φωτογράφου του Χίτλερ, θα εγκαταλείψει το Μόναχο και θα καταφύγει στη Βολιβία μαζί με τη γυναίκα του και τις τρεις κόρες τους. Εκεί, θα αφοσιωθεί στην αναζήτηση της Παϊτιτί, της χαμένης πόλης των Ίνκας, που βρίσκεται κρυμμένη στην αφιλόξενη ζούγκλα του Αμαζονίου. Η Μόνικα, η μεγαλύτερη και πιο τολμηρή κόρη, θα κληρονομήσει τον αντικομφορμιστικό χαρακτήρα του Χανς και τις δεκαετίες του ’60 και του ’70 θα αφιερωθεί στην λατινοαμερικάνικη επαναστατική δράση και, μετά την εκτέλεση του Τσε, σ’ έναν στόχο πολύ πιο ριψοκίνδυνο.
